Commander's Comments
July - August 2008
The installation (of Officers) in June was successfully completed and we're ready to start a new VFW year. Thank you for your support of the previous regime; I hope you'll be as supportive of the 2008-2009 officers as you were of the 2007-2008 cadre.
We have several new ventures in mind for this year. No date has been set yet, but we want to have a dinner (or luncheon) for our honored ladies. If you know of a widow of one of our deceased members, please call the commander with her name and phone number so we can contact her. Other ideas abound - come to our meetings on the second Monday of each month for further information.
As you know, our club is not "just a bar", although that is a key part of our business. We are an organization by and for Veterans: we support various programs for Veterans and we take care of our own. SGT Cody Legg, who was KIA in Iraq on June 4th of this year was a life member of our Post. We held a memorial service for SGT Legg with military honors at the Post on Saturday, July 12th.
Another important date for this July - August period is King Day on July 27th. This is the day that we travel to the home at King for a day of visiting, fun and food with the residents, who always look forward to this special day. If you can, please plan to attend.
Yours in comradeship,
Lamar Deuel, Jr., Commander
